Course Description:
Comparative Education in Global Context was a travel course I enrolled in Spring 2017. This course ” investigates comparative education theories and philosophy to examine education in different contexts, and it includes spending eight days in Ireland in mid-May after final exams.” By studying in 8 days after the completion course, we were able to apply what we learned in class to another country. Through this class, we learned about the varying educational systems of countries of our choice. We also learned about the roles of genders and teachers in each of these countries, and applied this to the educational systems. Closer the end of the semester, we focused on Ireland. This included the history and educational systems of Ireland. Once in the country, we visited Dublin and Northern Ireland (Belfast). Here we visited Trinity College, Giant’s Causeway, the Guinness Store, multiple castles, two schools, and many other beautiful landscapes.

Example Assignment: Classroom-Size-Global
During this class, we were able to to analyze different characteristics of classrooms around the world. On top of this, we could connect these ideas together and analyze how these might affect the teacher and students. My topic was classroom size, and I focused on primary and lower secondary grades. The United States fell approximately average compared to other countries I analyzed. It was really interesting to look at because almost all countries had more students in primary classrooms in comparison to lower secondary classes.
