What is Codeacademy?
Codeacademy is an online resource with lessons on a variety of coding platforms. Most of these lessons are free, however you can pay for pro to get additional lessons. I completed lessons for Learn HTML, Learn CSS, and Make a Website.
What did I learn?
Through Codeacademy, I worked on programming languages including HTML and CSS. Both of these languages work in conjunction with one another to make the code for websites. Through this I learned how to edit a multitude of parameters of the website content and look. This includes changing the background color/ image, font colors, font sizes, and font thickness. You can also insert videos, tables, and links. All of these examples are part of CSS, in which you can change the look of the website. HTML is used for the actual content of the site. This allows you to make different headings, paragraphs, and lists.
At first, Codeacademy was a little intimidating, however the more the lessons continued the more the site made sense to me. In all, I really enjoyed using this site. It was very easy to use. In the rare moments where I did not understand what to do, I either used the “Hint” option. If I tried multiple times, I used the “solution” button to see what I should have done. One thing I wish we did was make our own website, even if this was just a very basic one. I think this could be incredibly interesting and truly show how much we learned.
Below is a screenshot of my progress on these three courses.
